When I'm not making rock candy and slime with children ...
...I'm jamming out to Radiohead at Korean music fests.
Yes, you heard right. Radiohead. In Korea!
And I was this close to Thom Yorke and his sweet ponytail (he's the blurry one in the middle).
The Jisan Valley Rock Festival is an annual music fest here in Korea, just southeast of Seoul. The festivities occur in the valley of a ski resort, in a town called Icheon (not to be confused with Incheon, the airport hub). Past performers have included Muse, Weezer, Vampire Weekend, Belle & Sebastian, Third Eye Blind, Corinne Bailey Rae, the Arctic Monkeys and so on and so forth.
This year, we had Elvis Costello (the dragonfly approved):
M.Ward of She & Him, the duo comprised of him and the quirky and fabulous, Zooey Deschanel (she's my favorite, and unfortunately, was not in attendance...):
Radiohead, of course:
...and many others, like Motion City Soundtrack, dub-step master James Blake, the Stone Roses, and a slew of other Korean bands.
We opted for camping out. It was great, with the only downside being the downward slope that we had to set up on (Ski slope becomes camping area in the summertime. Noted.)
Some other fun pictures from the weekend:
1)Andrew with highlighter girl, 2) My friend and I and our cocktails-in-a-baggie
This guy. (his chest hair says 사랑=Love)
There was an amazing two-story set-up sponsored by Bacardi, complete with a DJ, disco ball, cocktail lounge, bean bags, mini pool and ping pong tables, and a second-story lounge area. We got there early on Saturday morning before the crowds came, and stole the best seats in the place. 'Twas faaaabulous!
Green-panted Korean boys were fanning passers-by. So I got in on the action.
After the last show on Saturday night, there was a massive bonfire. This is Andrew, the boy on fire. And this was his rock festival uniform (Short shorts. And that's all).
The entire weekend.
